who cares who sees anything
*Actually, this is a secret, personal blog that no one in my real life knows about, FYI. I keep this for catharsis.

30+ / queer / cis-woman / POC / feminist / odd / ill

I, wanna smash the cis-het-white-male-supremist-capitalist-pig-military-industrial-complex with a hammer, all night long... and party everyday!

Other preoccupations: Deftones + music-love in-general + art in all forms + film + culture + social justice + intersectionality + politics + living creatures + moon worship + my mental health + personal confessions and observations...

I work in the arts; I live and cope with mental illness and (hidden) disability; I'm still pretty new to this.
I'll improve my page + info later/soon.

All questions welcome. Pls call me out if you need to.

Watch This Incredible Slo-Mo Video Of The Underwater Creatures You Never See

Coral is actually a living creature, but the human eye rarely catches it moving. This incredibly slow-motion video lets you see the ocean life you don’t notice, before it’s destroyed by climate change.

This is an amazing deep dive into the psychedelic world of fluorescent coral from marine biologist and photographer Daniel Stoupin.

Coral are not dead skeletons or rocky statues. They are living structures that move, swell, and slurp daily, just not on time scales that we can recognize with our eyes. Thankfully, Stoupin and his timelapse morphs our perception of time so we can.

Check out the stunning video below:

This work of ocean art leaves one question unanswered. Why would a coral be fluorescent in the first place? They have no ability to “see”, at least as far as we know. What evolutionary gift could glowing give?

Luckily, this isn’t the first time that Daniel Stoupin has landed on IOTBS, and we might be able to shed some (wavelength filtered) light on that question. Check out this previous gallery of his fluorescent photography to discover the fishy reason why these coral might glow.

Wow. Louis CK’s SNL monologue actually made me feel better about men today. :)

Or, how I felt today going in to a job interview… BUT, I still attempted the climb! (And I think I made it to the top — they asked me for my references as soon as I got home! We shall see. *fingers crossed*).
Some days you really do make it. (Even if some days you don’t).

O hi! For this selfie, I am rockin’ my 5 dollar vintage sweater, scored from a country flea market rack. :) Not sure what era it’s from - maybe 70’s? (The short sleeves are pretty flared). Who can resist all three primary colours in one sweater? Certainly not I.

What do you say to guys when they think women have power and are jerks because they use men to get free stuff like dinner and they can use their bodies to get what they want?

misandry-mermaid:

Getting a few offers of free drinks/dinner* does not balance out the ~$431,000 that women lose out on over a 40-year working career as a result of the gender wage gap.

*MRAs always use this excuse, as if women are constantly being bombarded with offers of free drinks and dinner… ummmm I would like to live in that universe please? Because that shit is hardly a regular occurrence. ALSO usually dudes who offer to buy women “free” drinks or dinner expect some kind of sexual activity in return, so the dinner was never really free in the first place. They just assume that to us, sex is a transaction and they can buy their way in. It never crosses their mind that women can enjoy sex and are also capable of paying for our own fucking meal.

But is “power” that is derived only from men having to find you or your body physically attractive really true “power” at all? Or is that just more sexist power structures at play? I’d call it the latter if you ask me.

Also, you can’t fault women for just getting what they can from men sometimes, right? I don’t hold it against women if they can use their ‘sexual powers’ against men. Lots of men typically expect to gain plenty from that exchange as well (as pointed out above).

Equinox is finally here!!! <3 <3 <3 She is Cree First Nation, from Northern Ontario and the latest teen superhero to join Justice League Canada. She is so incredible that her powers change with the seasons!! Also she is inspired by a real-life youth Cree activist! So amazing, I seriously love her already. Can’t wait to read the graphic novel.

This perfectly pitched i-D editorial cements the hot streetwear trends for BMX graphics and tomboy denim.

I don’t get what “tomboy denim” is exactly, but I do like this ensemble/styling.
And I am totally copying that blazer under the denim jacket thing. ;)

21 badass women defying street art’s male stereotypes

Popular artists like Banksy and BNE have driven home the narrative that to be a famed street artist, you have to be initiated into an all-boys club.

But it’s 2014, and like the rest of the world, the arena of street art has transcended gender norms. These 21 talented women prove girls can paint too, and not just with oils on easels.
